The Diamondback moth, also known as the cabbage moth, belongs to the Plutellidae family and the Plutella genus. It is a highly destructive cosmopolitan pest that severely impacts cruciferous crops. Distributed extensively in South-East Asia, this small, greyish-brown moth often features a cream-colored diamond-shaped band along its back. Although believed to have originated in Europe, South Africa, or the Mediterranean region, it has now spread globally. With a short life cycle of about 14 days at 25°C, high fecundity, and the ability to migrate long distances, the Diamondback moth poses a significant threat to crops. It primarily feeds on the leaves of cruciferous plants that produce glucosinolates, though not all such plants are equally attractive to this pest.
