WAVAR-Funnel Trap with Brinjal Fruit Shoot borer

WAVAR-Funnel Trap with Brinjal Fruit Shoot borer

Brinjal Shoot & Fruit Borer Funnel Trap – 1 Funnel + 2 Lures

The Brinjal Shoot & Fruit Borer Funnel Trap is an effective, chemical-free pest management solution specially designed to monitor and control Brinjal Shoot and Fruit Borer (Leucinodes orbonalis), one of the major pests affecting brinjal crops. The trap uses specialized pheromone lures to attract adult male moths and capture them inside the funnel trap, helping reduce pest populations and minimize crop damage.

How It Works

The trap works using a species-specific pheromone lure that attracts adult male brinjal shoot and fruit borer moths. Once attracted, the moths enter the funnel trap and become trapped, reducing the number of males available for mating.

Regular trapping can help farmers:

  • Monitor the presence and activity of the pest.
  • Detect pest infestation at an early stage.
  • Reduce adult male moth populations.
  • Support integrated pest management (IPM) programs.
  • Reduce dependence on repeated chemical insecticide applications.
  • Protect developing brinjal shoots and fruits from borer damage.

Target Pest

Brinjal Shoot and Fruit Borer
Scientific name: Leucinodes orbonalis

The larvae of this pest bore into young shoots and fruits. Infested shoots may wilt and dry, while infested fruits develop holes, frass and internal damage, reducing marketable yield and fruit quality.

Recommended Crop

Brinjal / Eggplant

Recommended Quantity

10 traps per acre

For better monitoring and control, traps should be distributed uniformly throughout the crop rather than concentrated in one location.

Product Features

1. Highly Effective Trapping System

The funnel trap is designed to attract and capture adult male brinjal shoot and fruit borer moths using a specialized pheromone lure.

2. Specialized Pheromone Lure

The included lure is specifically intended for brinjal shoot and fruit borer. It helps detect pest activity and supports population management when used as part of an integrated pest management program.

3. Durable and Weather-Resistant

The funnel trap is designed for outdoor agricultural conditions and can be used throughout the crop season with appropriate maintenance.

4. Lure Shelf Life

Each lure has an approximate 45–60 day shelf life, depending on environmental conditions and product storage. Replace the lure according to the manufacturer's recommended interval for consistent attraction.

5. Cost-Effective Pest Management

The trap provides a practical method of pest monitoring and management without directly applying insecticides to the crop.

6. Chemical-Free Trapping

The trapping mechanism itself does not require spraying insecticide on the crop, making it suitable for farmers following IPM and residue-conscious crop protection practices.

Pack Contents

1 Funnel Trap + 2 Pheromone Lures

The two lures provide replacement capability during the crop season, subject to the recommended lure replacement interval.

Installation & Usage

  1. Assemble the funnel trap properly before installation.
  2. Place the pheromone lure in the designated position inside the trap.
  3. Install approximately 10 traps per acre.
  4. Position traps at suitable crop-canopy height so that the lure can effectively attract adult moths.
  5. Distribute traps evenly throughout the brinjal field.
  6. Inspect traps regularly and remove captured insects and debris.
  7. Replace the pheromone lure after its effective life, generally 45–60 days, or as recommended on the product label.
  8. Continue monitoring throughout the crop period and combine trapping with other recommended IPM practices when pest pressure is high.

Important Note

Pheromone traps are primarily used for adult male moth monitoring and population suppression. They work best as part of an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program along with field scouting, removal of infested shoots and fruits, crop sanitation, biological control and other recommended pest-management practices.
