DIGITAL AGRICULTURE MISSION

DIGITAL AGRICULTURE MISSION

What is Digital Agriculture Mission?

Digital Agriculture Mission (DAM) is a centrally sponsored scheme approved in 2024-25 Union Budget with an outlay of ₹2,817 crore to build India's Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for agriculture. The mission has 3 core components:

(1) AgriStack — a digital ecosystem of farmer databases, land records, and crop data linked to Aadhaar;

(2) Farmer ID (Kisan ID) — a unique 11-digit digital identity for every farmer, linking their land records, KCC, PM Kisan, soil health card, and insurance data;

(3) Digital Crop Survey — satellite + AI-based crop area and production estimation in 400+ districts across India. PM-KISAN, Fasal Bima, and KCC disbursal will all be linked to Kisan ID for seamless DBT. The mission also funds hiring of 90,000 'Agriculture Sakhi' digital facilitators who help farmers access all digital agriculture services through a single app.

Frequently Asked Questions — Digital Agriculture Mission

WHAT IS KISAN ID AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM AADHAAR ?
Kisan ID is a unique 11-digit identification number specifically for farmers, created under the Digital Agriculture Mission. Unlike Aadhaar (which is for every Indian), Kisan ID is linked to the farmer's land records, crop history, and agricultural scheme data. It allows the government to deliver PM Kisan payments, crop insurance, and KCC loans faster and more accurately. Think of it as a 'Aadhaar for agriculture' — it creates a verified digital identity for every farmer's agricultural activities.

IS KISAN ID MANDATORY TO GET PM KISAN BENEFITS ?
Not yet mandatory as of 2026, but the government is progressively linking Kisan ID to PM Kisan, Fasal Bima, and KCC for faster disbursal. States like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh are ahead in Kisan ID enrollment. Farmers registered on PM Kisan portal will be progressively issued Kisan IDs. It is strongly recommended to get your Kisan ID to avoid delays in future DBT payments.
