Verticillium chlamydosporium is a nematophagous fungus producing a chymoelastase-like protease that degrades nematode proteins directly. This fungus secretes several proteases when cultured with soya peptone and has been purified to apparent homogeneity.
Uses: It is a promising biological control agent for root-knot nematodes across various crops, attacking nematode eggs and females by forming a network of hyphae that penetrates and consumes them.
