WHAT IS NMEO-Oilseeds ?
National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds (NMEO-Oilseeds) is the central government's ₹10,103 crore mission approved in September 2024 to achieve self-reliance (Atmanirbhar) in edible oils. India currently imports 56% of its edible oils (over Rs 1.4 lakh crore worth annually). NMEO-Oilseeds targets boosting domestic oilseed production from 39 million tonnes (2022-23) to 69.7 million tonnes by 2030-31, increasing area under oilseeds by 40 lakh hectares. Key crops: groundnut, mustard, soybean, sunflower, sesame, niger, linseed, safflower, castor. Farmers get high-yield seeds, training, mechanization subsidy, and bonus on MSP. Documents Required for the National Mission on Edible Oils (NMEO)
The exact documents may vary depending on whether you are applying for oilseed cultivation or oil palm cultivation, and the state’s implementation process. Generally, farmers may be asked to provide:
- Aadhaar Card
- Aadhaar-linked mobile number
- Bank account details / passbook copy
- Land ownership documents or land records
- Proof of cultivation or lease agreement (for tenant farmers, where permitted)
- Passport-size photographs
- Caste certificate (if applying under SC/ST or other reserved categories)
- Farmer registration / Kisan ID, if required by the state
- Soil test report, where applicable
- Water source or irrigation details, especially for oil palm cultivation
- Land photographs or geo-tagged photographs, if required by the implementing department
How to Apply for NMEO-Oilseeds Online?
- Register as an oilseed grower at your local state agriculture department office, since NMEO-Oilseeds runs state-wise, not through one national portal
- Give land records (7/12 or khasra) and crop sowing details to confirm you're growing groundnut, mustard, soybean, sunflower, or another listed oilseed
- Quote your PM-Kisan beneficiary ID where you have one — it helps identify and prioritise small/marginal farmers
- Link Aadhaar to your bank account so the machinery subsidy (up to 40%) and MSP bonus can be paid via DBT
- Collect free/subsidised high-yield oilseed seed kits distributed by the state agriculture department in the 347 priority districts
- Join an FPO or farmer cooperative to access the cluster development support offered under the mission
