What is Auxin?

Why is Auxin Used in Plants?

    Auxin stimulates the formation of new roots, especially in cuttings. This is why auxin-based rooting hormones are widely used for plant propagation.
  2. Improves Rooting in Cuttings
    Auxins such as IBA (Indole-3-butyric acid) and NAA (Naphthalene acetic acid) are used to encourage faster and stronger root development.
  3. Controls Apical Dominance
    Auxin produced in the shoot tip helps regulate the growth of lateral buds, influencing plant shape and branching.
  4. Helps Cell Elongation

Why Is the Correct Dosage Important?

Auxins work effectively at very low concentrations.

  • Too little: little or no response
  • Recommended dose: desired rooting/growth response
  • Too much: can cause leaf curling, abnormal growth, root inhibition, fruit injury, or plant damage

Important: These are general concentration ranges, not universal field recommendations. For a commercial product, the label-approved dose for the specific crop and formulation should always be followed, because a 0.1% NAA/IBA product, for example, requires a different volume than a 4.5% formulation.
